Background: Catherine, 18, has other siblings. A catholic priest took one of them
to a boarding school in Tigania (Nchiru). He is a boy of 20 years, and the eldest.
She has a younger brother (7 years old) who lives with her mother at Shauri Yako
slums, where they moved to from Mjini. However, her father’s home is at Miathene.
She moved to the streets because the mother cared less whether she had clothes and beat
her and chased her daily from the slums. So she opted to live on the streets with other
street girls. She had gone to school up to class two before she went to the streets.
Her mother brews and sells illicit brew. Her former home is intolerable and she preferred
street life to the beatings at ‘home’.
Education: She is currently in
the 9th grade at Gikumene Girl's School. She came to the Home in 1999; she started
school in 2001.
Hobbies: Her hobbies include
watching TV, reading and helping around the house.
We are pleased to announce that
Catherine Kinya has been sponsored.
